BLAKENEY SANFORD CAERULEAPHILE

Closing Reception and Artists Talk, Oct 5th

Join Blakeney Sanford in the gallery on Sunday, October 5th from 12 to 5 pm for the closing of her solo show, Caeruleaphile. At 3 pm there will be short discussion regarding concept, practice and the process of bringing each of these disciplines to life.

During the run of the show, Sanford’s work received honorable accolades including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program for HBO’s big wave documentary, “100 Foot Wave: Season 3, Chapter III – Cortes Bank”. The award recognized the entire camera team including her unique water angle captured from a Waverunner 100 miles out to sea. She also received recognition from The Big Wave Challenge for her big wave cinematography, the Video Award for “Men’s Biggest Wave of the Year”, featuring a surreal shot of Alo Slebir surfing one of the biggest days ever documented on the planet.

Blakeney Sanford, a caeruleaphile in the truest sense, has spent over fifteen years working in blue. A California-based artist, Sanford draws on a deep connection to the natural world, investigating our human relationship to the microcosm and the macrocosm through sculpture, photography, videography and immersive installation.

CAERULEAPHILE is a comprehensive survey featuring four bodies of work: site-specific installation, Facet sculptures, multidimensional Portals, and a selection of Sanford’s Emmy-nominated big wave cinematography work.
